On Monday, November 5, the restrictive measures of the United States against Iran officially came into force, the US Treasury Department reported.
These are the “toughest” US sanctions ever imposed against Iran. The United States is leading a maximum-pressure campaign against the Iranian regime and intends to persistently apply these sanctions, the statement says.
The new sanctions primarily concern the Iranian oil export, as well as energy, shipping and shipbuilding, and financial sectors. The sanctions list includes more than 700 individuals, companies, aircraft and vessels. Earlier, the United States declared its goal to reduce Iranian oil exports to zero, urging other countries to abandon their purchases of Iranian oil. At the same time, a number of countries were allowed not to comply with the sanctions, including Greece, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Turkey, India, Italy, and Japan.
However, Iran will continue to sell oil, as Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stated.
Sanctions against Iran were prepared by Washington in May after the US withdrawal from the agreements on the Iranian nuclear program.
