Global unemployment remains at an unprecedentedly low level

The unemployment rate worldwide was still unprecedentedly low in 2010, despite the economy gradually recovering from the crisis. This data was provided by the International Labor organization.
The ILO informs that last year about 205 mln. people were jobless, which is almost the same as in 2009. The number of non-working citizens grew by 27.6 mln.
The ILO representatives forecast that the jobless rate is to continue increasing in 2011. It is expected to constitute 6.1%, 203.3 mln. people in other words.
Another news provided by the ILO is that unemployment was rising mostly in developed countries in the period from 2007 to 2010. At the same time it fell in some developing countries such as Brazil, Kazakstan, Sri-Lanka, Thailand and Uruguay in comparison to the pre-crisis indicators.
As for unemployment among the young, it constituted 78 mln. people in 2010, which is 4.5 mln. more than in 2007, the ILO declared. However, as compared to 2009, the number of unemployed young citizens shrank by 2 mln. people.
The ILO representatives also added that in 2009 the families of 630 mln. employed citizens (20.7 % of global labour force) lived in extreme poverty. They had nothing but USD 1.25 to spend per day.
