Microsoft has overtaken Apple in market capitalization for the first time. The American software manufacturer surpassed the American consumer electronics manufacturer as the most valuable listed company in the US and the world.
Microsoft had a market cap of $746.82 billion, beating out the iPhone maker's $750 billion. At the same time, at the beginning of August of this year, the Apple brand was worth more than $1 trillion, and on October 3, the value of the company's shares reached a record peak of $233. However, now the company's securities are sold for $170 per share. Such a sharp decline was caused by weak sales of the latest generation smartphones and, as a result, the reduction of orders for their production. Besides, forecasts of the company's financial future are not so optimistic. Experts reduced expectations regarding the volume of smartphones sold from 100 million to 70 million units.
Microsoft, meanwhile, held quite steady. It was stability not a sharp rise that allowed the software maker to become the leader. Considering that there are not so many contenders for the title of the most expensive company in the world, there is no point in expecting strong changes in the near future.
