European countries have to come to an agreement on the question of expanding sanctions against the Russian Federation amid the recent clash of Russian and Ukrainian military vessels in the Kerch Strait.
The proposal to tighten the stance towards Russia was made by Austria that holds the EU’s presidency at the moment. Estonia and Poland supported this intention. On the other hand, France and Germany were against. As their representatives commented, sanctions would not improve relationship with Moscow. After these comments further sanctions seemed to be unlikely. However, it became known that the EU is going to review its sanctions against Russia. The corresponding document, without access to content, appeared in the database of some European institutions.
