EU rejects May's bid to renegotiate Brexit deal

Brexit talks stalled again. The head of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, categorically stated that new negotiations are currently impossible. However, London still believes that proposed withdrawal options do not fully reflect the interests of ordinary Britons.

This is how Juncker commented promises of British Prime Minister Theresa May to conduct new negotiations. “I will meet Mrs May this evening in Brussels. I remain convinced that the Brexit deal we have is the best - and only - deal possible. There is no room whatsoever for renegotiation but of course there is room, if used intelligently, to give further clarifications and interpretations without opening the withdrawal agreement. Everybody has to know the withdrawal agreement will not be reopened,” the official said. In contrast to the EU, the British parliamentarians believe that the agreement in the current version does not fully satisfy national interests.

Under pressure of the House of Commons, May was forced to cancel the vote on the EU withdrawal agreement. In addition, the Prime Minister promised to establish more optimal conditions. This statement prompted an onslaught of criticism from the European Commission.
