The German authorities have counted the flood losses. The damage caused by the inundation, which has recently stricken the east and north of the country, has been estimated at €10-12 billion. The victims will get one-time financial aid allocated from the flood relief fund. In the interview to Info RBB radio station, Minister of Economy Philipp Rösler said that although the total volume of the fund has not been set yet, all the sufferers will get an indemnity. Presently, the regions hit by the natural disaster do their best to avoid the dam failure. Brandenburg, Lower Saxony, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommerm are strengthening the water barriers with sandbags and carrying out earthworks with the help of volunteers. Due to the situation deterioration, the local government of Saxony-Anhalt asked for assistance neighboring Brandenburg. So, 9000 military men of the Bundeswehr were sent there to deal with the deluge aftermath. Several hundreds of the Germans living in the risk zone had to leave their homes and flee for dear life. Thanks to the well-functioning system of notifications and operational actions, no victims have been reported yet.
