May and Juncker to continue discussion to break Brexit impasse

The decision on the withdrawal of Great Britain from the EU was adopted back in 2016. However, the negotiations on this issue are still ongoing. Despite the fact that there have been already more than enough attempts to reach the agreement, the deal is going to be renegotiated. British Prime Minister Theresa May and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker have agreed to continue the discussion on breaking the impasse surrounding the Brexit in February. The new meeting is presented as a landmark event, and according to the official statement of the two parties, the “Political Declaration”, which sets out the framework for the future relationship between the European Union and the United Kingdom, will now be “more ambitious in terms of content”. At the same time, Juncker said any agreements reached on this meeting would be ratified and approved by the European Parliament and the leaders of the European Union countries. As for financial issues, reflected in the “Withdrawal Agreement”, no changes are expected. The financial claims from the parties will not be discussed. The main purpose of the meeting will be the search for a compromise which will "gain the broadest possible support in the UK Parliament and respect the guidelines agreed by the European Council". Notably, the UK is now on the EU side, since the former is facing its weakest economic growth in the last ten years due to the Brexit uncertainty.
