Trump decided on the US candidate who will compete for the position of the World Bank head. Senior Treasury official David Malpass will represent the United States. An unnamed source close to the US administration confirmed that David and the United States welcome the opportunity to lead such organizations, carry out the tasks set by them and work effectively. At the same time, the decision of the president raises many questions, the main one of which is what a person who constantly openly criticizes the bank and other equally large lenders will do as the president of the World Bank. David Malpass, a 62-year-old Republican, was Trump's senior economic adviser during the election campaign of Donald Trump in 2016. Malpass is a longtime critic of the World Bank, and most likely the US president's choice is set to show that he agrees with David.
Earlier, this position was taken by Jim Yong Kim, who abruptly announced that he would resign from the post after seven years of work. Jim left his post on February 1, 2019, and the bank’s board appointed the chief executive, Bulgarian economist Kristalina Georgieva, as interim president. “It has been a great honour to serve as president of this remarkable institution, full of passionate individuals dedicated to the mission of ending extreme poverty in our lifetime,” Jim Yong Kim said.
