The German Central Bank Head Submits Resignation

The Central Bank Head (Bundesbank) Axel Weber left his post ahead of time. As Agence France-Presse reports that Weber explained voluntary resignation by his “personal motives”. The agency emphasized that earlier Weber was called a possible follower of Jean-Claude Triche in line of duty of the ECB Chairman. Triche’s contract expires in April.
The Wall Street Journal denotes to that it is still unclear if Weber is going to lose his position in the Executive Board of the European Central bank.
Announcement about the resignation was made after meeting with Angela Merkel. The Government’s press service clarified that Weber’s talk with Merkel was not related to Weber’s post in the European Central Bank. Germany is the biggest Eurozone economy that is why the German candidate is a possible Triche’s alternate in the ECB.
Weber will leave the post of the German ECB Head on April 30. It is still unknown who will be designated for his post.
Weber has been managing Bundesbank since 2004. Earlier this year he said that he is not going to lay claim to a new contract in the Central bank. The current Weber’s contract expires in October.
