The coalition in Greece failed to succeed in searching the ways to the economic recovery. At the recent gathering, the leaders of the three party organizations that make up the coalition were not able to arrive at a unanimous decision and break the deadlock. One of the core issues appearing on the agenda is to resume the operation of the government TV and radio channels in Greece. The debates did not last for long, the meeting went on just for 45 minutes. That time was insufficient to find a solution to the problem of TV and radio broadcasting. 151 votes are needed to pass a resolution in the Greek parliament. The absolute majority of votes belongs to the ruling party New Democracy – 125 seats out of 300, then goes Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) having 28 votes, and only 14 votes are available at the Democratic Left. It should be reminded that earlier the government closed down the state-owned TV and radio by reason of “non-transparency and wastefulness”. The channels broadcasting by means of ERT – BBC and Deutsche Welle – were also terminated. In response to such a decision, the journalists’ union announced the indefinite strike. As a result of this action, newscasts in the country were not provided for a week. Later on, implementation of the government’s decision was suspended by the State Council of Greece. However, until it is canceled, the issue shall remain open.
