Angela Merkel is indeed a prominent figure in the world of politics. The current German Chancellor is seen to be a perfect candidate for a post of the European Commission chairperson. In fact, there is a chance that Ms. Merkel will agree to take on a new role since she does not plan to join a political rally at the nearest chancellor election in Germany.
Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel said: “I love that idea, I’ve asked Angela Merkel several times. She would be a perfect candidate for the Council, for the Commission. She’s got a global view, she’s a great leader and a strong personality. I really think she would be a great leader for Europe. We have some different candidates who are able but Angela for me would be a dream candidate.” Remarkably, Mr. Bettel is not the only politician who admires Angela Merkel. Previously, French President Emmanuel Macron announced he would support the candidacy of Ms. Merkel for the post of the European Commission president after Jean Claude Juncker leaves the position on November 1. “If she were to want it, I would support her,” Macron said in an interview on RTS.
Meanwhile, Angela Merkel is not eager to keep on playing big-league politic games. However, she may serve as the unifying and resilient force that is so badly needed in the region in this complicated period when the political environment seems to be polarized and fragmented.
