The Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant, which produces 60% of all Russia's zinc, assessed the damages caused by the meteorite. The total loss was estimated at 60 million rubles. According to the press release, the explosion ripped through 1000 km² of walls and roof of the facility as well as overhead crane. Previously, the annual report published on the plant's official website said that the natural disaster did not radically affect the activity of the Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant. However, some time later, the plant's board decided to revise the aftermath of the meteorite, and asked to allocate funds for restoration works and purchase of new equipment. On February 15, 2013 the Chelyabinsk meteorite, which has already become legendary, damaged 670 buildings of educational institutions, 235 health care facilities, 11 social insurance agencies, and 75 culture and sports centers. The officials from the neighboring regions are jealous and hope that another meteorite will fall on their territory. Hence, nobody wants to miss a chance for putting the blame on a meteorite for potholes as well as factories, schools, stadiums, and hospitals that fell into disrepair. Besides, it is a great opportunity for an additional bailout.
