Bill Gates reclaimed the status of the wealthiest person in the world in the ranking of billionaires by Bloomberg. Microsoft co-founder overtook Amazon’s chief Jeff Bezos who had topped the list for two years. According to the latest edition of the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Bill Gates’ total wealth amounts to $110 billion while Bezos’ net worth is estimated at $108.7 billion. The third rank is given to Europe’s richest person Bernard Arnault with $102.7 billion. Interestingly, the chairman of LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy) runs the world’s largest empire of luxury goods. Nevertheless, the owner of such an exquisite business nearly catches up with hi-tech leaders and surpasses tycoons in the oil sector.
Bill Gates has been able to take the lead amid the feud between US President Donald Trump and Jeff Bezos. As a result, Microsoft secured a $10-billion cloud computing contract with the Pentagon, though Amazon had been the frontrunner for a lucrative 10-year deal. The news made an instant impact on both companies’ shares. Microsoft’s shares surged 4% while Amazon’s stock sank 2% since the announcement.
