The China’s government should not narrow a gap between the rich and the poor, but it should create conditions for the overall well-being and provide everyone an opportunity to make their own fortune. It was stated by Zong Qinghou, the richest Chinese citizen, as Agence France-Presse reported.
As the businessman cleared up, the rich should render assistance for the rest to improve the financial state; if all dwellers are rich, the society will get more well-balanced. Besides, Zong Qinghou called out the authorities to cut down taxes in order to encourage investment; he also highlighted that egalitarianism (or social equality in other words) could lead to malnutrition.
According to the Forbes’ estimates, Zong Qinghou possesses the capital worth $11.6 billion. He is the founder and key shareholder of Wahaha, the production enterprise of soft drinks. The businessman set up his own company being at a mature age. Referring to the mass media, in his early life he was lacking money on accommodation sometimes, so he stayed overnight under a bridge.
This year, the Chinese authorities have taken a number of measures to curtail the difference between the incomes of the rich and poor people in the country. So, the government decided to raise the minimum pay and also to make government companies allocate to the budget more profits than nowadays.
In January, for the first time for 12 years, the authorities of China released the data concerning the Gini index that indicates the degree of the social inequality. The index showed 0.474 versus 0.412 in 2000. The nearer the index to zero – the bigger is difference between the highest and lowest incomes. For reference, in 2012 in Russia, the Gini index was equal to 0.84, according to the Global Wealth Report.
