It seems the workers of a tax office from Brittany, France will refuse to eat omelette for breakfast. Recently, near the tax office probably one of the world’s most impressive omelette has been cooked! Poultry farmers on strike have smashed 100,000 eggs. It is the thin end of the wedge. The head of the trade union said they would keep smashing 100,000 eggs every day until the government solved the problem. The owners of laying hens are determined and do not intend to give up. Raise money or we will smash the eggs! It is the egg rebels’ motto. According to the farmers, the reason was in low egg prices. At the moment the price for dozen eggs is 0.75 euro and the production costs 0.95 euro. The producers suggest introducing the act which reduces the egg production in France by 5% and due to increase in demand to optimize the egg prices. Considerable impact on the price policy is made by the EU directives. For example, the farmers are obliged to increase the living floor space for laying hens; the cages, according to the new standards, should be bigger and more comfortable. It is not the first time the farmers in the EU are in turmoil. At the beginning of this year, the farmers protested at miserly subsidies for Latvian, Estonian, and Lithuanian farmers. Along the Via Baltica motorway connecting three Baltic states, the farmers burnt 400 bonfires which symbolized the unity of agriculturalists. The action got the name the Baltic Way.
