Like other countries across the globe, France is struggling with the coronavirus consequences. The virus outbreak has clearly demonstrated all flaws and fragility of France. Therefore, the French President is sure that the country has been taught a great lesson. When the pandemic is over, the country should use this acquired knowledge in order to become stronger.
In a televised address to the nation, Macron talked about the results of the fight against the virus and announced plans for the future. He said that the crisis sparked off by COVID-19 has shown the country’s need for greater economic independence. "The only answer is to build a new, stronger economic model, to work and produce more, so as not to rely on others," Macron pointed out. He declared that the €500 billion stimulus package aimed at keeping companies afloat. Restaurants and cafes will be soon reopened. France will also lift restrictions at its borders for European Union travelers in order to help the tourism industry.
During his speech, Macron pinpointed that in the following weeks, the country would lay the foundation for changes within the system that would take place after the epidemic. He also said that France should revive its economy by making it more resilient to ensure the proper level of production, financial independence as well as agricultural, medical, industrial, and technological independence. He added that France also would contribute to greater strategic autonomy for Europe.
