European aircraft manufacturer Airbus is eager to overtake its chief competitor American air company Boeing by 2017-2018 in terms of sales volume. Airbus CEO Fabrice Bregier laid the plans bare in an interview to the German magazine Welt am Sontag.
Bregier cleared up that the group company expects to boost production of the brand-new jetliners A320neo and A350 as a first priority. Referring to the circulating rumors Airbus’s top executive adds that in the meantime Boeing can curtail the production of aircraft of 767 and 747-8 series.
On the results of 2013, Airbus is planning to deliver over 600 aircraft to its customers. In particular, earlier in October the manufacturer booked a huge order from Japan Airlines. So, the Japanese customer placed orders for 31 wide-bodied jetliners of A350-900 and A350-1000 series (an option allows 25 more jets) worth $9.5 billion in total.
By the long-lasting tradition, the two manufacturers Airbus and Boeing have been competing against each other in a number of orders. Since early 2000, Airbus has been setting the pace in this criterion. However, on the showings of the last year sales Airbus gave place to Boeing (588 accomplished orders versus 601 ones accordingly).
