Apple Inc. is reportedly asking retail store landlords in the UK to slash the rent for some of its outlets by as much as 50%. In its turn, the company will extend leases by several years.
According to the Sunday Times, the request concerns 38 premises in the UK where Apple stores are located.
Curiously enough, the company has asked for a rent reduction not due to the fact that it is suffering serious losses. Quite the opposite, the tech giant has coped well with the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic. However, Apple wants its rent to match those of retailers whose rent has been cut amid the slowdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
So far, there have been no comments from Apple representatives confirming the leaked rumors about this situation.
It is worth noting that the last day of July this year has been a lucky one for the company. The value of its shares jumped to a new record high, pushing Apple at the top of the list of the most expensive companies in the world. Apple's capitalization came in at $1.786 trillion.
