The Russian authorities are still trying to convince gullible citizens that despite a heck of sanctions against the country, foreign partners will not impose new sanctions as they have the "dialogue on equal terms". However, European countries and the US in particular have already introduced such a jaw-dropping number of sanctions so that some of them do not know what else can be sanctioned.
"We put so many sanctions on Russia there's almost nothing left to sanction," White House National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien said in an interview. He also added that the US had imposed different types of restrictions on 300 organizations, oligarchs, and all energy companies in Russia. There was not much the US could do in terms of sanctions with Russia, O'Brien pointed out. However, the US government is looking for other loopholes where it can show discontent but this is difficult to do because of the great number of the existing sanction. Some analysts say that this is rather a modest statement from the representative of Trump’s team. They are sure that Washington has enough tools in its arsenal to continue its protectionist policy.
"There is no guarantee that Washington will not impose new sanctions against Russia or its citizens in the near future," Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said. Life is more complicated than the statements of such a high-ranking White House official, he stressed.
