It appears that not all companies are suffering losses against the background of the coronavirus pandemic. Some firms managed to keep their revenues growing and even exceed the levels logged before the pandemic. For instance, the manufacturer of the legendary Barbie doll, Mattel, is among those companies which have stroked gold amid the pandemic.
Mattel reported a record 29% surge in sales of its iconic toy, notching the highest increase in at least 20 years. Experts stress that the company has been able to multiply its capital thanks to the lockdown that was in force almost all over the world. Parents bought classic toys and board games to somehow distract their children from the computer. As a result, there has been a noticeable hike in demand, including Mattel products. In this difficult time, Mattel has released new collections and announced the presentation of a new 2020 “Campaign Team” set dedicated to the US presidential election.
The new launch features four dolls. Each of them has roles within the campaign and election process, e.g. presidential candidate, a campaign manager, a fundraiser, and a voter. “Since 1959, Barbie has championed girls and encouraged them to be leaders whether in the classroom, community or someday, of the country,” said Lisa McKnight, senior vice president and global head of Barbie and Dolls at Mattel.
