According to the Financial Times, China's controversial tech giant Huawei contemplates launching the production of its own chips. The company is now working on plans for building its own chip plant. This will help Huawei completely stop using the American technologies.
The telecom manufacturer is expected to start with the production of low-end 45nm chips. This technology proved itself fifteen years ago. Apart from that, Huawei aims to make 28nm chips for Smart TVs and “Internet-of-Things” devices by the end of 2021 and create 20nm chips for 5G telecom equipment by late 2022.
The new production line will allow Huawei to solve the chips supply problem for 5G base stations that the tech behemoth have faced when the United States imposed sanctions.
The chip plant would be run by Huawei’s main partner - the Shanghai IC Research and Development Center.
