The Prirazlomnoye field located in the Pechora Sea has yielded the first portion of the back gold. Gazprom is determined to settle down in Arctic for the long haul indeed. The company is planning to establish a large-scale hydrocarbons production centre in the Arctic region. Actually, Gazprom was expected to report the successful start in 2011, however they had to postpone it due to the severe conditions of the region. Anyway, now this project is controlled by the state and personally by Russia’s President Vladimir Putin. The Arctic shelf needs special treatment and facilities, so it is the first one in the world to have an offshore ice-resistant stationary platform. The Prirazlomnaya oil rig has been constructed for the whole scope of operations, from drilling to shipping. By the way, despite being so young, it has already been exposed to attacks of Greenpeace activist. Another technological peculiarity of the platform is a mechanism for getting oil from other fields too, so there is no necessity to build new oil rigs. "Powered by a system of “zero discharge”, eliminating waste from entering the sea drilling and production. They will be pumped into special disposal wells or, if necessary, be collected in containers and transported to shore for disposal. Produced water and oily water will be pre- cleaned and also pumped into the well "- explains the concern. To ship the oil, shuttle ice-class tankers Kiril Lavrov and Mikhail Ulyanov have been constructed. The Prirazlomnoye deposit of 72 million tons is situated at a depth of 19–20 meters.
