The local currency in the South Sudan will be issued during the week, as it is officially new state established on July 09, 2011. It was declared by Reuters agency citing on the Finance Minister of the South Sudan David Deng Athorbei. The money is to be printed in Great Britain as expected. It is unspecified for a while how the currency will be called. At present, in the South Sudan the Sudanese pounds are approved for payment – this currency was valid before the country shared into two parts.
The Republic of the Sudan in its turn restricts the banks’ rights from the South Sudan: now the banks from South are considered as foreign ones. It means that they will not have access to electronic system of interbank operations, as The Sudan Tribune says.
Earlier it was reported that country’s separation in two parts influenced the Sudanese pound substantially. Agence France-Presse once asserted that in early July the dollar cost was 3,47 pounds, but now it’s – 4,2 pounds.
Sudan separation in two parts has become possible after January 2011 when the South Sudan held a referendum. Applying to the results, 98,83% of respondents voted for the South Sudan to separate out.
