Bank of New York Mellon, the pioneer of the US banking industry, is launching services with crypto assets. One of the world’s largest banks will be the first depositary bank to begin financing bitcoin and other digital currencies.
“Digital assets are becoming part of the mainstream,” Roman Regelman, CEO of Asset Servicing and Head of Digital at BNY Mellon, said at a press conference.
Citing the top executive, at the first stage Bank of NY Mellon is going to hold, transfer and issue digital assets at the request of its clients dealing with fund management. The bank’s customers will be allowed to store any crypto currency in their accounts. The newly-established Digital Assets unit is expected to roll out its services later this year.
