The new White House administration under Joe Biden is actively re-establishing diplomatic ties that were cut by the previous US President, Donald Trump. First of all, the US seeks to improve relationships with the European countries. Democrats back up their words with actions, and the online meeting of US Trade Representative Katherine Tai with French Minister of Economy, Finance, and Recovery, Bruno Le Maire, is the best confirmation of these intentions. Both officials confirmed their strong interest in resolving the long-standing trade dispute. Bruno Le Maire summed up the results of the conference, saying that the two countries were eager to end the trading tensions that brought losses to both parties. The minister said that France and the US were determined to jointly look for solutions. Notably, M. Franck Riester, Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness of France, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, also took part in the conference. Apart from resetting ties, the participants of the virtual meeting also discussed the issues ranging from illegal trading practices to the World Trade Organization reforms. These are not the first steps towards reconciliation. Earlier, in the course of a phone call, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and US President Joe Biden agreed to a four-month suspension of tariffs that were previously imposed on imports of more than $10 billion in the Airbus-Boeing trade dispute.
