Regarding the results of 2013, Airbus multiplied a number of orders by 80% to an industry-record 1,619 contracts, as the European aircraft giant reports in a press release.
On the one hand, the European aircraft manufacturer outran its American counterpart Boeing that reported booking 1,513 orders. Taking into account cancelled orders, Airbus and Boeing made 1,503 and 1,355 sales contracts respectively.
On the other hand, Boeing is ahead of its main rival in terms of deliveries. Thus, the American company delivered 648 airliners, whereas the European producer delivered only 626. Despite losing to Airbus in the race for a bigger number of orders, the American company still remains the largest global manufacturers of civil airplanes, Reuters notes.
Airbus closed 2013 with 5,559 unexecuted orders worth $809 billion. The European aerospace company needs 8 years to fulfill these contracts. Likewise, Boeing’s backlog of orders equals 5,080; their total value is not specified.
