Migrant workers racing to rescue

People from the East will salvage the Old World. The statement which sounds like an ancient prophecy actually belongs to contemporary authors. Experts arrived at the conclusion that migrants from Eastern Europe could help rescue the economy of the Western part. On the one hand, the immigrant-related issue is being widely discussed nowadays as their stream has been surging non-stop. Authorities of the host countries worry about such an influx of workforce and fear that labor migrants take jobs away from the locals. On the other hand, the recent research of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development proves the opposite and shows the benefits of free movement of workers for the economies. Mobile workers complement host country workers by helping to fill skills gaps and labor shortages. Most of labor migrants tend to find jobs in the shortest time and do not abuse social benefits schemes. Hence, they make themselves useful for an economy. Besides, forced migrants do good for their home economies, they help fight against unemployment in their homeland as they vacate jobs when leaving. In fact, migrants from Southern Europe encounter more problems looking for a job. Researchers explain they hold degrees and hence have higher requirements for vacancies. Unlike well-educated southerners, people from Eastern Europe are not fastidious and agree to do any job. According to the data of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, in 2012, 76% of Romanian and Bulgarian citizens were able to find jobs in the U.K., whereas 62% were employed in Germany. The European Commission declared that since January 1, all restrictions were lifted enabling workforce from Romania and Bulgaria to move free in search for employment around the EU. Previously, they had to get work permits to be employed in 8 EU countries, including Germany, Great Britain, and France. Meanwhile, some European policymakers opine in favor of easing labor migration in the EU. Indeed, labor migrants can have a benign influence on the economy since the great majority of them are very keen on work, not just on social benefits causing extra problems in the social welfare system.
