The slogan on the Sberbank billboard in the Swiss Davos reminds a line from a song popular with Nazis, the Swiss newspaper of 20 Minuten said.
A delegation of the biggest bank in Russia will take part in the meeting of the World Economic Forum held from January 22 to 25. In the run-up to this event, Sberbank put up a billboard featuring the slogan: “Sochi today. The world tomorrow.”
According to 20 Minuten, the message is strongly associated with a line from Hans Baumann's song which was a hymn of Hitlerjugend (Hitler Youth): “Heute gehört uns Deutschland und morgen die ganze Welt” (“For today, Germany is ours and tomorrow, the whole world”).
The Swiss newspaper published the song version with the word gehört (meaning “belong”). However, there are other variants with erhört (“hears”) and da hört (“hears” as well).
Delfi cited Sberbank as saying that creators of the slogan had no intention to do with the Baumann text. The message was aimed to mean wide worldview and remind people of Sochi Olympic Games that will be held February 7-23, 2014.
