Experts working for anti-fraud bodies have found out that Russian hackers as well as their colleagues from Nigeria and China are to blame for large-scale theft of the US unemployment benefits.
According to the data, fraudsters created a system, which allowed them to submit fake applications for state unemployment compensation. They used earlier stolen personal data of various people to withdraw funds by means of ATMs and send them abroad. Heywood Talkov, CEO of LexisNexis Risk Solutions, emphasized that about 70% of unemployment benefits were stolen. He also added that scammers are definitely supported by the state where they live.
Not so long ago, the United States Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General estimated that $39 billion, which had been paid out to support unemployed people, were wasted. The report of the supervisory authority unveiled that the regions were experiencing difficulties with the distribution of these benefits, and probably many citizens received payments illegally.
