It is widely thought that corruption is a disease of the developing countries. However, it turned that the powers to be do not mind take a bribe. Recently, EU Home Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmstorm presented a report showing the true colors of Europe. According to the commissioner, corruption cost the EU €120 billion in 2013. And that is only a flash estimate. The report says that the investigation on the 28 nations has just been started, but extent of the damage corruption inflicted is already shocking. We can only guess what the accurate figures will be look like. That was for the first time when the European alliance came under such kind of examination. After the Commission experts will be all set, along with the final results, they will also publish the recommendations for fighting against bribery. The examination was supposed to be carried out by the end of 2013, but the scope of work was so broad, that the investigation stalled. Although experts moved the date, they still lack time needed for proper examination of the European institutions. So, the document will contain only detailed information on each EU country. Corruption not only costs Europe lots of money, but also curbs the business development in the Old World. The poll showed that 4 out of 10 European entrepreneurs are of that opinion. Cecilia Malmstorm highlighted that unlike other nations, Sweden can boast absence of this problem in the country. Well, this Nordic country must be the envy of the world.
