It is extremely difficult for Washington to concede its defeat in the Nord Stream 2 race. Though the Russian gas pipeline is nearly completed, the US is making numerous attempts to explain the reasons for its disadvantages to Europe.
Another point to discuss the long-suffering project was the US warning about the irreparable damage of the Nord Stream 2 launch for the European energy sector. This time, Adjunct Assistant Professor at Georgetown University Iulia-Sabina Joja has stressed that the pipeline would have long-term consequences for Europe's security and energy. According to the expert, only Germany will gain benefit from Nord Stream 2 as it will get the lowest gas prices possible. All other EU countries, primarily Eastern European countries, should brace for higher gas prices.
Joja said that the economic, political, and security consequences following the launch of the pipeline would be significant. She added that mainly Eastern Europe would pay the price for it.
Germany holds an opposite view. For example, the head of the German energy company Uniper Klaus-Dieter Maubach believes that the launch of Nord Stream 2, on the contrary, will lower the volatility of gas prices and help reduce the current shortage in the European market. The company noted that there was less risk of delays or non-completion of the pipeline after the deal between the US and Germany.
