According to an official of a NATO member country’s diplomatic corps, Afghanistan will soon suffer a military conflict along with hunger and disease insecurities. Neighbor countries were advised to open their land borders for the Afghans as the country is about to face a perfect storm.
The diplomat said that Iran, Pakistan, and Tajikistan should open their air and land borders. Many charities, which warned the Afghan authorities of the impending crisis after the Taliban seized power, agree with him.
Experts underline that starvation, diseases, and persecutions risks are sharply increasing. These issues are extremely relevant to ordinary citizens while staying in Afghanistan. “There’s a perfect storm coming because of several years of drought, conflict, economic deterioration, compounded by COVID,” David Beasley, the World Food Programme Executive Director, said.
