Tesla has another competitor in the electric vehicle market. Chinese electric car startup XPeng has sent the first batch of flagship P7 electric sedans to Europe. This move indicates the Chinese electric carmaker’s ambitions to expand internationally and maybe even dethrone Tesla.
The high-tech electric vehicle is now available to pre-order in Norway. Local buyers will receive their cars in the fourth quarter of 2021. XPeng is also ready to support its expansion into Norway by establishing a full-scale Norwegian operation that includes customer experience, sales, delivery, service, charging, and lifestyle facilities.
Competition in the electric car market intensifies all over the world. XPeng is taking up the challenge by actively pumping up production capacity and launching new models. In July, XPeng said it delivered 8,040 vehicles, a monthly record and a 228% increase year-on-year. "We are dedicated to meeting the growing customer demand for our smart EVs in China and internationally by bringing the most sophisticated and stylish models to our customers," He Xiaopeng, Chairman and CEO of XPeng, said. "We are seeing smart EVs not only redefining driver experience with their innovative functions and differentiated services, but also offering the potential to fundamentally transform mobility behavior."
In 2021, the company launched another sedan called the P5, which cost less than the Tesla Model. Back then, one of the XPeng executives said that the company would eventually sell its cars abroad. The company fulfilled its promise.
According to official data, in 2020, 54% of all new cars sold were electric. Hence, it is quite clear why this market is so attractive for automakers.
