In early September, a misunderstanding arose between automotive corporation Daimler and two environmental organizations, Greenpeace and Deutsche Umwelthilfe. The company sees no reason why it should grant them concessions. On September 3, Greenpeace and Deutsche Umwelthilfe called on the multinational automotive corporation to end sales of internal combustion engine vehicles by 2030.
The environmental organizations demand the same actions from BMW and Volkswagen. The list of requirements was presented by Matthias Walter, Deutsche Umwelthilfe’s representative. In addition, the environmental groups urge German company Wintershall to curtail the development of new oil and gas fields.
The environmental organizations are awaiting a response from Volkswagen and other automotive concerns by the end of October 2021. If the automakers do not respond to the demands, they will face a lawsuit, Greenpeace lawyers emphasize.
Greenpeace and Deutsche Umwelthilfe are seeking legal confirmation from the management of the automotive concerns that cars run on traditional fuel will no longer be produced. Earlier this year, the environmental organizations sued Germany’s government and won the case. As a result, the German authorities are now obliged to control the level of greenhouse gas emissions.
