Musk pushes staff to 'go super hardcore'

Tesla CEO Elon Musk decided to boost the motivation of the employees in his way. He asked them to “go super hardcore”. Only this working approach, according to Musk, will ensure a decent production level.

“The end of quarter delivery wave is unusually high this time, as we suffered (like the whole industry) from extremely severe parts shortages earlier this quarter,” Elon Musk said in his letter to the employees, adding that Tesla assembled “a lot of cars with missing parts that needed to be added later.” The Chief Executive also pointed out at the end of his email that staff would have to “go super hardcore” to make up for production challenges early in the third quarter and “ensure a decent Q3 delivery number.”

In the second quarter, Tesla was able to deliver a record number of cars, but further production growth was stalled due to acute chip shortages. In addition, Tesla was forced to halt its operations in China for four days due to a shortage of spare parts.

As a backup measure, Tesla started selling the Model 3 version in the US equipped with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. This type of battery is used in Model 3 and Model Y, which are sold in China and exported to other countries. Tesla announced that those customers “who switch to Model 3 with LFP battery would be able to receive the model sooner than the original delivery date of year-end.”
