UN appeals to Elon Musk to help avert global famine

In the context of a global economic crisis, policymakers are ready to take desperate measures. The extraordinary idea occurred to Executive Director for the UN World Food Program David Beasley. He found it appropriate to appeal to Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to donate $6 billion to struggle with world hunger and its aftermath.

“42 million people are on famine’s edge this year,” David Beasley tweeted. “Starvation, destabilization of nations & mass migration if we do not respond. Elon Musk, you made $6 billion just yesterday—the exact $ we need to avert catastrophe! Please help!” he urged the second richest man on the planet.

Earlier, UN Secretary-General António Guterres expanded on the uneven distribution of COVID vaccines between high and low income nations. “100 million people have been forced into poverty since the beginning of the pandemic and 4 billion lack social support, health care, and job protection,” the UN chief admitted. From his viewpoint, vaccine inequality exposes the appalling difference between advanced countries and emerging market countries. The policymakers underscored that “global solidarity has been missing in action and people living in conflict zones and fragile states are suffering worst of all.”

On top of that, the UN has been monitoring the state of affairs in Afghanistan under the thumb of the Taliban. Representative of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Jens Lerke called on international charities to raise $600 million for the Afghan civilians who are facing the threat of famine.
