NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has applied to become Norway’s new central bank governor.
Stoltenberg’s term at NATO ends in October next year. Concerned about his future career, he applied to head the central bank. The regulator's official website stated that twenty-two people had run for the new governor’s position. It added that the deadline for applications was December 9. The press office published a list of the applicants, including 62-year-old Jens Stoltenberg. In his resume, cited by the Norwegian News Agency, the NATO Secretary General wrote that he was very motivated to take up the post of the central bank governor. He noted that if he were chosen, he first would have to serve out his term at NATO.
"I made it clear to the finance ministry that if I get the job, I wouldn’t be able to start work until the end of my NATO mandate on October 1, " Stoltenberg said.
Previously, Jens Stoltenberg served as Prime Minister of Norway twice (2000-2001 and 2005-2013). Besides, he has led the North Atlantic Alliance since October 1, 2014. Stoltenberg’s mandate as NATO secretary general has been extended twice. Currently, he holds the post until the end of September 2022 and has to serve for a total of eight years.
