Apple is now set to become the first company in the world to be valued at $3 trillion.
The tech giant’s stock rose by 30% in 2021, adding $659.8 billion to its $2.96 trillion market cap at the end of the year. NASDAQ, where Apple’s shares are traded, is valuing Apple at $3.17 trillion. The second highest valued company is Microsoft, which is behind Apple by about $400 billion. It is followed by Alphabet, which market cap has increased by 65% last year, surpassing the $2 trillion mark.
Amazon increased in value by only 6% to $1.7 trillion. Two companies shattered the $1 trillion milestone last year - Elon Musk’s automaker Tesla and Meta, formerly known as Facebook. Tesla gained 58% last year, helping Musk gain the title of the world’s richest person. The electric car manufacturer is currently valued at $1.1 trillion. Meta surpassed the $1 trillion market cap mark in early 2021 and gained 20% over the year. However, its value slumped to $932.6 billion at the end of the year.
