US White House press secretary Jen Psaki said the US and Europe were working on natural gas supply diversification as tensions rose near Ukraine's borders. According to Psaki, the US officials are ready to coordinate gas supplies with EU partners. Gas from the EU is expected to substitute liquified natural gas (LNG) from Russia. Such measures are to be implemented due to the elevating conflict over Ukraine. The US and Europe are cooperating with natural gas suppliers around the globe in order to establish diversified LNG deliveries. Currently, all sides are seeking ways to accumulate gas reserves. At the end of 2021, Azerbaijan and Japan offered to support Europe with LNG supplies. Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry Koichi Hagiuda said this would become a step forward to strengthening global cooperation. However, the US initiative was not embraced by everyone. Former US Energy Secretary Rick Perry sharply criticized it. He believes that it is unprofitable for participants of the deal to replace Russian gas with LNG supplies from Qatar.
