Joe Biden has pledged to provide Europe with liquid natural gas if supply from Russia is halted.
During a meeting with German chancellor Olaf Scholz, the US president promised to help the EU with natural gas supply, and urged European nations not to worry about the energy crisis. Chancellor Scholz added that he sees no reason to be concerned with a possible gas shortage.
“We are looking at opportunities to make up for lost gas from Russia. We’re underway of trying to see what we can do to do that and dealing with our friends around the world, as well. We think we could make up a significant portion of it that would be lost,” Biden said. He noted that Russia would be severely hurt if it cut off gas supply because commodity exports constitute a significant part of the country’s budget.
Olaf Scholz stated that he does not expect the energy crisis to intensify. “You don’t have to be concerned. “There are some who should be concerned who see themselves maybe too much as a deliverer of such resources. Because we are focusing on renewable energies, we will go down that path and make sure that this is the profitable future,” Scholz said.
