According to SPA, the official Saudi press agency, the country has recently found new oil and gas fields.
Saudi Aramco discovered natural gas fields in four regions of the kingdom, Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said. New oil fields are located northwest of the city of Dhahran, in the al-Reesh oil field. The second well in the Al-Reesh oil field generates 4,452 barrels of extra-light crude oil and 3.2 million cubic feet (90,614 cubic meters) of gas per day.
In order to assess the size of the field, Aramco drilled three and four wells in al-Reesh. Initial production totals 2,745 barrels and 3 million cubic feet (84,950 cubic meters) of natural gas per day, respectively. The production of oil from another well reached 3,654 barrels per day, and 1.6 million cubic feet of gas (45,307 cubic meters).
The Al-Shorfa natural gas field was also discovered in the Empty Quarter, which is southwest of the Shaybah and Gavar fields. Apart from that, the country dug oil fields in the Al-Ajrumiyyah well, located northwest of Rafi. Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud highlighted the importance of this discovery as it became possible to extract light oil at Jebel Tuwaiq.
State-owned company Saudi Aramco sets to determine the size of the discovered fields. At the same time, they are trying to estimate the amount of oil and gas reserves.
Earlier, OPEC+ and its allies agreed to increase oil production by 0.5 million barrels per day. The agreement entered into force in January 2021. Notably, the decision to boost output was a compromise between the largest members of the cartel - Russia and Saudi Arabia. The latter proposed to postpone the increase in production until the middle of last year, while Russian oil companies agreed only to a three-month delay.
