Coca-Cola refuses to use controversial ingredient

Coca-Cola is working to remove a controversial ingredient from all its drinks, BBC said on May 6.
The ingredient, called brominated vegetable oil, has been patented as a flame retardant.
A Coca-Cola spokesman, Josh Gold, noted that the decision to remove the BVO was not based on security concerns since all chemical components of the beverage meet regulatory requirements. The company's decision was the result of increased pressure and anxiety from consumers. The online petition asking Coca-Cola to remove the brominated vegetable oil was signed by several thousands of people.
According to Associated Press, PepsiCo said last year that it would remove brominated vegetable oil from its drinks.
