The US continues to face new difficulties. The country’s energy sector is predicted to collapse due to a ban on Russian oil imports. As a matter of fact, the country's entire energy sector is highly dependent on it.
Robinson Meyer, a staff writer at The Atlantic, believes that US energy security will collapse following a ban on Russian oil imports. Notably, last year, Russian oil imports accounted for 8% of total foreign supplies. Compensating for this amount is no easy task, as there are many pitfalls in this situation. Gasoline prices in the United States are rising at a record pace. Saudi Arabia is still rejecting US President Joe Biden's requests for help. This can lead to even more negative consequences.
Even the fact that the country is the world's number one producer of oil at 15,043,000 barrels per day does not make much difference. The second and third places go to Saudi Arabia and Russia with a production of 12,000,000 bpd and 10,800,000 bpd respectively. However, this data is not a reason to be complacent. Meanwhile, the media continue to escalate the situation regarding the country's energy security.
