According to The Independent, Britons do not have enough money to buy food amid surging prices of gas and electricity. The fact is that Britain is heading for its biggest fall in living standards since the 1950s.
The Independent reports that ordinary British people are concerned about high prices of electricity and food. Most of them have to limit the number of sweets their children can eat and borrow money from friends to pay bills. They also cannot allow themselves to buy some goods, treats, or dinner with their friends. Most of them are doing their best to survive under the current conditions.
In early February, Ofgem, a firm that regulates the monopoly companies which run the gas and electricity networks, introduced limited measures to help stabilize the energy market. Industry regulator Ofgem lifted its cap on bills to 1,971 pounds ($2,670) in response to a surge in gas prices. The company also emphasizes that energy prices have been climbing for six months already.
Experts at Daily Express suppose that sanctions fever against Russia has a significant negative effect on the UK economy. The decision to ban the import of Russian gas has aggravated the UK energy crisis. As a result, 67% of Britons have faced problems with paying electricity bills.
