Manchester United loses $100 million of its value

The UK-based football club Manchester United saw its brand value plummet to $739 from $837 previously. It moved from second to third position in the list of the world's most valuable football brands, according to Brandirectory.
The main reason for the decline in the football club’s brand value is their lowest-ever Premier League finish. Manchester Utd finished a lowly seventh in the Premier League and was knocked out of the Champions League, thus seriously dropping in value and popularity.
German champs Bayern Munich topped the chart as the most valuable club in the world worth $896 million. The second place was taken by newly crowned European champions Real Madrid. Manchester City climbed to fifth and saw its brand value rocket by $178 million. French Club Paris St Germain shot to number 10 from 24 last year with its brand value rising to $324 million from $85 million. Atletico Madrid ended the Premier League seeing its brand value almost double.
On the whole, most football clubs in the top 20 added in their value. In addition to United, AC Milan and Ajax Amsterdam were an exception. Thus, the top 20 consists of seven British clubs, four German ones, three Italian and three Spanish teams as well as French, Turkish, and Dutch.
