Billionaire Elon Musk has finally decided to terminate his acquisition of Twitter. The case has already gone to court. Moreover, Musk is trying to find any reasonable ground to end the deal with the smallest possible losses.
The latest filings came after former Twitter security chief Peiter Zatko accused the company’s management of negligence with user data.
Musk’s legal representatives focused on Zatko’s allegations. They believed that they were enough to terminate the deal. The former Twitter security chief reported "extreme, egregious deficiencies" by the social media company related to privacy, security, and content moderation. He said he had repeatedly warned the company’s management about these problems. However, Twitter’s executives withheld information about cybersecurity breaches and fired Zatko in early 2022.
Based on his words, Musk's legal team made allegations that Twitter had violated the terms of the deal as it had failed to comply with data privacy and consumer protection laws. They also stressed that the social network could be vulnerable to data center failures and cyber attacks. Moreover, Musk’s legal representatives pointed to Zatko's statement that Twitter’s management had refused to reveal the number of spam or fake accounts on the social network.
