Saturday, June 21, Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper imposed sanctions on 11 Russians and Ukrainians as well as a company engaged in Russia's military incursion into Crimea, the National Post informs.
“Russia’s illegal occupation of the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine and provocative military activity remains a serious concern to the international community,” Prime Minister Stephen Harper said on Saturday. He added that the new sanctions will keep increasing “economic pressure on those responsible for the crisis in Ukraine”.
The full list of sanctioned personalities has not been released yet. What is more, Canada’s government made a decision to expel a Russian diplomat and contribute $220 million to support Ukraine.
Earlier, Canada, home to over 1.2 million Ukrainians, had imposed sanctions on more than 80 Russian and Ukrainian officials, and the Prime Minister compared Russia’s President Vladimir Putin to Adolph Hitler.
