According to the Bloomberg Billionaire Index, for the fourth year in a row, the Waltons top the list of the world’s richest families. They own Walmart, the largest retail and wholesale chain. The family’s net worth is estimated at $224.5 billion. The world's second richest dynasty is the Mars family which represents one of the largest producers of sweets and other food products. In early September 2022, Mars chief executive Grant F Reid retired after more than 8 years in the role. Poul Weihrauch, global president of Mars Petcare, took his place. Walmart has a rich history behind it. It was founded by entrepreneur Sam Walton in 1962. At present, Walmart has more than 10,500 stores worldwide, and its revenue stands at $573 billion. The Walton family owns 47% of the retailer. All in all, there are 25 richest families on Bloomberg's billionaires list. Among them is the Albrecht family who owns Aldi, the German chain of discount supermarkets, with a net worth of $41.4 billion. The Cox family controls the telecommunications company Cox Enterprises, and its wealth is estimated at $28.3 billion. The Mistry family, owners of the Indian construction company Shapoorji Pallonji Group, are also in the ranking. The Bloomberg ranking includes the 25 wealthiest families with a combined net worth of $1.5 trillion. At the same time, it does not take into account the wealth of some super-rich families such as the Rockefellers as their widely-dispersed family fortunes are “too difficult to track.” According to the research, there are currently 25,490 centi-millionaires in the world who are holding $100 million or more in investable assets. This is a new group of ultra-rich people. They do not dominate the news headlines unlike such billionaires as Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Roman Abramovich, and Bill Gates whose fortune starts at $30 million. The wealth of centi-millionaires far exceeds this reading. These affluent people are mostly tech titans, financiers, multinational CEOs, and those who inherited their fortune. Their number has doubled over the past 20 years. The US is home to 38% of all centi-millionaires (9,730). China (2,021) and India (1,132) are coming second and third respectively. The UK is in 4th place, with 968 centi-millionaires, followed closely by Germany (966) in 5th place. Switzerland (808) ranks sixth, followed by Japan (765), Canada (541), and Australia (463). Russia (435) closes the top 10 countries for centi-millionaires. Researchers estimate that the number of ultra-wealthy people will grow rapidly in Asia and Africa in the coming years.
