According to Forbes, the world’s billionaires became poorer by $1.9 trillion in 2022. The richest of the rich suffered losses estimated at about $2 trillion. However, this figure may be higher. Between New Year's Day and early December 2022, the billionaires’ total wealth slid to $11.9 trillion from $13.8 trillion. Their number in the Forbes ranking also fell to 2,523 from 2,671. High-tech moguls suffered the most with a total loss of $1 trillion. Founder of Amazon Jeff Bezos’ wealth shrank significantly by $80 billion as his company’s stock collapsed by almost 50%. CEO of Tesla and owner of Twitter Elon Musk found himself among the top losers in 2022, according to Forbes. Musk’s fortune was reduced by $115 billion last year. The rest of the US, Chinese, and Russian billionaires lost $660 billion, $620 billion, and $150 billion respectively. With $147.9 billion left, Musk is currently in second place on the famous list behind Bernard Arnault, head of Luxury goods group LVMH, owning $179.3 billion.
