According to Foreign Minister Qin Gang, the United States suppresses China. He describes US-China relations as extremely tense, saying they have "seriously deviated," and warns of potential conflict. He spoke about the attempts of the United States to contain China at his first press conference as foreign minister. “The US claims it seeks to compete with China but does not seek conflict. But in reality, the so-called ‘competition’ by the US is all-around containment and suppression, a zero-sum game of life and death,” he said. “Such competition is a reckless gamble, with the stakes being the fundamental interests of the two peoples and even the future of humanity.”
Qin Gang also touched upon the issue of Taiwan, condemned the sanctions regime against Russia, and argued that the US Federal Reserve’s rate hikes triggered outflows of capital, which increased the debt burden on some countries. As for geopolitical issues, he accused the United States of provoking confrontation and plotting an “Asia-Pacific version of NATO.”
